We are looking for soldiers posted all around the world to submit videos of themselves, and their daily lives in the field, on base, and more, for a special Thirty Seconds To Mars project.
The best quality possible image and sound is preferred.
Along with this ‘day in the life’ material, we are also searching for soldiers in uniform to sing along to the song, “This is War”, looking straight into the camera. In addition, telling us your thoughts on war, your current situation, why you joined the military, opinions on government and current politics and thoughts on family, God, and home would be appreciated. The more creative the location the better. Ideally it would be a location that said something about the life of a soldier. Either on a mission, in a humvee, on a tank, in the field, or even at base camp.

war isnt a good thing but it is necessary sometimes we have to do what is necessary to servive the fact that the mars team (echelon included) are trying to draw attention to what the people fight out there are doing is epic some people may not agree ( im a lover not a fighter) but can still do what is necessary to get the job done and come home we all want the soilders to come home all of them alive and well however for some of them this will be impossible all we can do is support them through and through its the only way. provito in alutum

This is not a matter of right and wrong. Everyone has the right do do what they want as long as its not hurtful or disrespecting anyone. The funny thing about people posting bad comments is if you don't like the ideas and want to bash others, why are you on a sit for fans if all your going to do is bash it? maybe some people actually want to see the lives of those who are stationed. Maybe its good to see what they go through day by day, and then just maybe people can actually honor and respect what freedom we have because they put thier lives out on the line for us to be able to even be on this page and write how wee feel. 30 seconds to mars is unlike any band out their! its good to see musical artist (such as themselves) paying attention to our soldiers and wanting to know more about them and what they go through. I LOVE the idea, and have a son-in-law who is a marine in Afghanistan. I am going to ask him myself. If they actual soldiers can’t, video the families that are across the world that have to deal with life while they are deployed.

Amanda, i'm sure everyone gets that you are upset by the entire war, and fair enough that's your right, but you don't need to go around abusing people in retaliation. As for the purpose of the video if you've ever watched any of the previous videos released by 30stm you should be able to see that they generally don't "glorify" anything, the entire point of the video (as it's come across to me from what i've read) is the intention to show the relatities of war. Just because people are out there fighting doesn't mean they want to be. I can sure as shit tell you now that my dad certainly didn't like being shot at of having to drive through heavily occupied insurgent towns/cities when he was in the army, not knowing if he was ever going to get home to see his family and his children again. He did it because it was his job and the majority of people like to prefrom to the best of their abilities when in their place of employment. it's what he did, it's not who he is. Oh and by the way, he was in the Irish Army, which by defination is a peace keeping army. I understand that you're upset and anti-war, but you have to be able to at least try and see it from other's point of view it's only fair.
As for the idea of vid's from war zones, bases etc. I love it, but as so many have already stated it might be a bit difficult to get around the legal parameters, so i was wondering if it would be possilbe to use video's from other wars(god know's there's been enough/way to many of them). Surly using vid's from previous satationings and assignement might be easier than getting the more current ones. War is the same no matter where or when unfortunatly.
This is a wonderful idea. It's also a way for all of us to get our opinions out, not for us to all fight and shout at each other. Don't make war over something we should all be discussing to help others. This, for one, is a project not a debate class. Grow up please and realize that if you have a problem with all this them look away! You don't have to participate! And besides that…Don't fight over something like this. Why are you people saying they;re terrorist?! I'm against the war and everything that's going on in I raq and stuff, but I would not go as far as calling them (both us army or iraquis) terrorists.

listen to some of the songs on this is war, as i know you all have, like hurricane and stranger in a strange land, 30stm know the horror of war, but this song is a triumphant song, it is simply what they are trying to portray for now
and to be fair i dont think anyone belives in ethnic cleansing of the arab nations or the litany of injustices being commited over there, BUT its not the soldiers fault, they are doing their jobs, we dont blame economists for the horrors that globalisation has wrought on society.

I think it's a great idea, i'm from Chile and i'm totally agree with you guys. Soldiers are people like any of us, they're risking their lives, and maybe sometimes they have to make the right choice, but under preassure.
On February 27 it was like a war from us, i've never saw so much pain before, so much fear and desperation on people. It's hard to imagine that one night you wake up and everything happens so fast that when you open your eyes for second time everything that you used to have has gone, you have no water, you have no food and no light. There is not another choice, you have to fight, for people you love and for yourself. I'll love to make a video, i'm not a soldier but i saw with my own eyes what they did for saving lives. Wow, how did this turn so ugly? I think their intentions in making this video were honorable. They wanted to show the view of the soldier. Soldiers do what the are told to do no matter what country you are from. They have for thousands of years. I love the way people throw the name Hitler around when they get angry. There is no reason to and no comparison whats so ever. I hate when people do this. Pull out the Hitler card. How can any intelligent person say there are no terrorists…that is ridiculous. I hope the people saying these things are not from the USA. Barack Obama is a good and honorable man. You can disagree, with me but that is the great thing about this country…we have that right. And the soldiers are fighting for us to maintain those rights. Don't get me wrong I am anti war, but I will always support the troops. Soldiers probably can't participate anyway..against the rules…I don't think the video is going to be about this war neccessarily…more like conflict in general. If you are a 30 Seconds to Mars fan you should trust them and know they would do the right thing.
I thought it would be against regulation for the soldiers to video but you may get some without any identifying info on their uniforms due to mil. Laws.
Amanda, the story you posted is more than likely a lie. They didn't even say if it had been verified. Killing civilians is illegal. Even killing terrorists is illegal if they are unarmed. It's called "rules of engagement". IF any of that crap has happened, those responsible will receive dishonorable discharges and court marshals. Of course there are definitely those who have done such atrocities, but there are always bad apples, and most soldiers are very respectable individuals who would never participate in such acts. Some mercenaries might (Blackwater, maybe) but not the military. However I do admit it has been verified that we have bombed incorrect targets resulting in civilian deaths
. But the HONORABLE troops of the military deserve to be respected for their motives.

Well I actually am against the invasion of Pakistan and the Iraq War. Pakistan has nothing to do with the US and the Iraq war wasn't even declared by congress, making it unconstitutional and un-American. Bush and Obama have both done a lot of crap. But Afghanistan, maybe could be justified. And I don't think military personnel deserve to be spoken badly of as a whole. They have no freedom of speech and no choice whether or not they fight unless they want to go to prison for being awol, so I don't think it's fair to the good soldiers to associate them with the bad ones. If anyone is to blame, it is the past few US Presidents (at least for most of it). You won't hear military personnel blame the President though because they can get in serious trouble for it (no free speech). And I'm not sure, but I think most civilian deaths in the past 2 decades in the middle east have been from bombings, not gunfire (which still doesn't justify it, nothing can justify murder). I really think your anger should be directed at the Leaders, not the soldiers (at least not the majority of them). Another thing to consider is that, yes the US media is always full of lies and propaganda, but all other countries spread lies as well, so you can't simply believe everything negative said about the US or their enemies.

Without the Americans and my fellow canadians fighting the Taliban and other terrorists the world those civilians know would be way worse. We have made big strides in helping out. i think rather than try to get videos of soldiers and base the video on actual war, it should be based on the fans and non-fans. similar to fans grouping & advertising and having a rebellion to gain support from others if you understand what i mean, like 30stm did with the record company.
