mtvU writes:

New York, NY – August 9, 2010 – mtvU, MTV’s 24-hour college network, is bringing the hottest artists direct onto college campuses across the country with the 2010 mtvU “Campus Invasion Music Festival.” Headlined by the multi-Platinum rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars, as part of their “Into The Wild” U.S. tour, which is presented by mtvU, the band will be joined by special guests Neon Trees and New Politics.
Thirty Seconds to Mars who were just nominated for 4 MTV Video Music Awards, including Video of the Year, began the “Into the Wild” world tour early this year in support of their third studio album This Is War. The first leg of the tour took them to 89 cities in 27 countries where they played in front of over 1.3 million ecstatic fans. This Is War has already spawned two-consecutive #1 singles at alternative radio with “Kings & Queens” and “This Is War.” The album’s thirds single “Closer to the Edge” impacts radio later this month. Formed by brothers Jared and Shannon Leto, Thirty Seconds to Mars has captured numerous awards and accolades, including an MTV Video Music Award, three MTV EMA’s, an MTV Latin and Asia Award, and an mtvU Woodie Award.

The invasion starts this fall, hitting the following schools:

9/25 – Utah Valley College – Orem, UT
9/29 – Texas A&M (Kingsville Campus), Kingsville, TX
10/4 – Murray State University – Murray, KY
10/15 – University of South Florida – Tampa, FL

The Festival will feature a number of mtvU, MTV and sponsor related activities, with attendees taking home some great swag. For more information, head to campusinvasion.mtv.com

mtvU/MTV Presents is also the exclusive media sponsor of the U.S. leg of the “Into The Wild” tour, which starts on August 30th in Syracuse, NY at the New York State Fair and runs through Oct. 16th in Pensacola, FL at Deluna Festival. For more information, check out thirtysecondstomars.com

I just left the Kingsville, TX concert and it was so not worth it. All that swag and activities that MTV promised where nonexistent. There was a 30 Seconds to Mars booth with t-shirts and stuff and that was it. There were crowd issues also but that may be only this concert but if you're expecting lots of free stuff and auditions for MTV shows don't bother going.

I want to go to the Tampa date but there isn't any information! Do we have to be students of USF? Is there an age limit? Where do we buy tickets? How much are tickets? So many questions unanswered leaves me worried with the idea that I'm not going to be going to any 30STM's concerts anytime soon =/

If anyone knows ANYTHING PLEASE! HELP!

How can we buy tickets? I've never bought tickets to a concert before and I don't know where Im supposse to get. And my mom always talks about how Im too young to go to a rock concert because Im 12 so she has to go with me which I doubt she will since she doesn't even like rock music. :(

    • Alejandra

I just went to my first concert in may for 30stm and it was amazing. I'm was 15. Though the concerts do get really crazy. i went by myself and my mom just waited outside doing stuff at the venue. The tickets things, well you can buy tickets on any ticket website like Ticketmaster or livenation but the tampa concert is free. :D

When you take time off you get left behind…big sponsors=more exposure and $. It is what all bands are looker for and need. After setteling with their record company and financing this album themselves they have to make money. They have never even made money from the first two albums. The more awards they win, the more cred they have in the industry. I'm sure everone has noticed merchandise being pushed on their websites, bills must get paid so do they, and their employees. Making money isn't selling out it's a job. Everyone in the punk community said Green Day sold out when they signed to a major record label. They couldn't stay a small town punk band forever. The reason people make music is to share it with their fans. You have to make money to get to those fans. Now the one thing I have never heard of until this year., are these VIP packages. Other bands are doing it I know, but it does seem strange paying to meet someone. That seems like it should be a contest type of thing. My daughter won a contest in March and we met Green Day. It was through their fan-site. Which cost $20 dollars a year, but you have a chance to win prizes, sound checks, trips, merchandise. If you charge for fan sites I think you can do these things for the fans. By the way my daughter wants to do the VIP thing. I think I would feel weird doing that…I don't know??

Come to California! Please I wanna go to one of your concerts so bad…… :D

  • Chris

Where do we get tickets!? In particular, the Tampa show!!

  • Christa & Gabrie

Um, please tell me anyone can go to the campus shows, not just students, right?

    • OJaganshi

I'm glad I'm not the only one who had this concern… I am hoping for the best though. I think that if the shows were limited to students only, they wouldn't have failed to mention that detail and they would have advertised on a much smaller scale. Plus the shows are being listed with the band's other tour dates. (They just aren't available for purchase yet.) I'm crossing my fingers though. I will be very sad if I can't go. :(

It makes me wish I was back in college! Hmmm maybe I'll finish my graduate studies at one of these universities!!!!!

  • Amy

This feels a bit commercial to me. Does MTV own you now?

Heavy price to pay, but I suppose if it's their dream, then have at it.

    • Marie

      exactly what i thought!!

it scares me somehow MTV overexpose Mars just like they do with everything.

These kind of things just make it more and more possible…

lets hope the guys are making good choices and know how to deal with this kind of commercial stuff.

    • alloyjane

Ya gotta wonder what they had to agree to when they settled with the record company. I mean, I hear K&Q on soda commercials. Plus I've been hearing it on other forgettable crap. I hope once whatever terms they are liable for expire that they break away from major record labels period. The Mars Army is such that the boys can go the punk rock DYI route. There's a great youtube vid called "Why Radio & Music Industry Sucks Nowadays" and Dick Dale offers great advice to bands who love what they do. Put out your own crap and tour tour tour. That way, no one owns you but you.

  • tania

Can't wait for the Tampa show!!! so happy =)

  • Jill

You guys should take some time off instead of adding more and more dates to your schedule
