1941 Fruitcake In Ohio Sells For $525

CINCINNATI — A 1941 fruitcake has sold for $525 to an Arizona man in an Ohio company’s online auction, and the money will go to the homeless in southwest Ohio.

Elite Estate Group sold the cake in an auction on its website. Company owner Larry Chaney says the man, who wanted to remain anonymous, probably bought the cake as an investment. Chaney says he doubts anyone would eat a 70-year-old fruitcake even though it was vacuum packed and contained rum that probably helped preserve it.

The cake was made in 1941 by The Kroger Co. It was returned unopened to a Kroger store in 1971. The manager took it home and kept it until recently when his son was helping him get rid of some things and gave the cake to Chaney.

    I'm not a big fan of fruitcakes, even I eat that, especially at Christmas times.
    (My mom always bakes it and I don't want to make her feel sad)

    That’s it, really rum helps to preserve cakes and panettones, but I did not know that could be so long! :O Ahahah, weird indeed! And the price? Whattt?? Omg, I like fruit cakes but this one is very expensive and I don’t dare to think of it! Ahahah! Awww, it’s so good I to know cook and cakes are one of my specialties in the kitchen! Feel invited to experience them one day, okay?! XD

    Yes I do espesh this time of yr!! It tends to get me into trouble tho!! Thn I gotta jog tht extra mile to not gain anything lol!! But a 70 yr old cake erm no wouldn't eat tht!! Altho wht the heck lets try it!! There's alcohol in it so it must be still good I say we dish up this bad boy and hve fun!! Beer anyone lol!! Yummy!! Don't drink beer I'm more a wine girl myself red at least a 5yr old bottle thk u vintage lol!! And yr 81-86 thts a great yr there!! Thx for the post!!! These are exactly the kinda things I seem too find!! Lol!
